"Ever since the fall of the Wattaside dynasty, the city of Tarodant is free again. The inhabitants dress with sheet and cottons. There are many craftsmen. Tarodant is governed by noblemen, four at a time, and no longer than 6 months at a time. The people of Tarodant are peaceful, and never provoke their neighbors"

"On the plains at the foot of the Atlas, there are many small villages. The southern plains are owned by Arabs who use them to feed their cattle. The city dwellers pay them high tribute to use the land for growing crops, and to be protected.

However, in 1514, the city dwellers revolted against these Arabs, and sought the protection of the Sharif prince (Sa'adians)." (Leo, 91)
